Background and Purpose

It started out as the Jessamine County Creative Art League, then The Old Time Radio Troupe decided to join in and do shows with them. Eventually, the KCAL group took over and this is the beginning of their 8th season! The group does 4 shows a year. The last 2 years and this one, they have and are hosting a Halloween show at First Vineyard. The KCAL Old Time Radio Theatre is located at 109 South Main St. in Nicholasville Ky!

We call it theatre of the mind because if you can, sometime during many of our shows we ask that you close your eyes and imagine what it would be like to either be sitting in the audience or listening on the radio.

Cosplay Corner: Velma from Scooby Doo

Shop the look! It is finally October and my favorite time of the year where cosplayers and the normal people collide, dressing up together and for fun, especially on Halloween! I will be sharing my cosplays and makeup looks with you all this month on my Instagram and here on my blog so you can shop or re-create the look! Today’s look I will be sharing with you all is Velma from Scooby-Doo.

What You Will Need

  • Short Wig
  • Glasses
  • Orange Sweater Top
  • Red Skirt
  • Orange Socks
  • Brown/Red Shoes or Red Heels

Amazon Links/Shop My Look Exact

I always buy my stuff from Amazon but I’m sure you can also find this look in retail stores near you or even on better websites. If something is unavailable on Amazon, don’t worry… I guarantee you will find it elsewhere!

The Makeup

Velma’s makeup is very subtle, honestly, you won’t need makeup at all. For my cosplay, I added some orange and gold shimmer to the eye with subtle eyeliner and lashes. With the glasses, there really is no reason for eye makeup unless you plan on taking off the glasses at some point while still in costume/cosplay.

Final Thoughts

Velma is such a sweet and easy character to dress up as and that is why I chose her. She was always my fave in Scooby-Doo and most likely always will be. Make sure to follow my Instagram where I will be sharing all things Halloween and makeup this month! I will also be having lots of polls to vote on, come join in on the fun! Thanks so much for reading.

Jessamine Fall Festival 2021

Highlighting One of the Most Anticipated Events in Nicholasville Kentucky!

Nicholasville Kentucky is a small town located south of Lexington that offers quite a bit of stuff to do and sights to see! Some may argue there is nothing to do here, however, I beg to differ and will protest that statement in my upcoming blog, Hidden Gems of Jessamine County I plan to release by January 2022.

This past weekend Jessamine County hosted their Jessamine Fall Festival (in Nicholasville) which featured local vendors, food, fun, and community interaction. I attended the morning and afternoon of the event on Saturday. It was a great crowd, and everyone followed guidelines and was respectful towards one another and I am just so proud of that. In this blog, I will discuss some local businesses and some of the fun I had with my husband, my sister, brother-in-law, and his nephews. In the end, I am also featuring a gallery of photos sent to me by the Jessamine Fall Fest page and fellow citizens who enjoyed their time at the festival!

Wilmore Kentucky – Let’s Go Shopping

Wilmore, Ky is a quaint little town in Jessamine County. This treasure is often overlooked and deserves more recognition. I grew up in Nicholasville however, half of my childhood was spent in Wilmore. I even attended Asbury University for two years because this town just holds a very special place in my heart, it always will.

I was so excited when Ky Creatives invited me to come to experience their Fall Night Market, unfortunately, the last one of this year, however, there will be more to attend next year and I am so excited! Last weekend was the first time in a few months I visited Wilmore, and it was a very good visit. Not to mention that downtown Wilmore is just so beautiful and filled with love and happiness. It was also bittersweet because as I passed the old Sims drug store with a for lease sign it just flooded tons of memories for me. Sims was a special place, the atmosphere matched a 1960’s movie. They had the best pizza and ice cream. Thankfully, The Local Confectionery brought ice cream back to the main street, so I guess that makes up for it. Below are some shops I recommend you stop by next time you are in Wilmore.

Let’s Go Shopping

Whether you’re shopping for yourself or getting Christmas shopping finished, Downtown Wilmore definitely has you covered!

Gigi’s Boutique

Gigi’s is owned by Lisa Smith who is a gentle soul with a passion for fashion of course! Her shop features clothing, home goods, decorations, just everything you would want in a cute boutique! I actually had the chance to interview her a while back which you will get to read once I post my blog, The Hidden Gems of Jessamine County. Definitely go check her shop out! She is also on Instagram and Facebook.

5 Things to Consider When Moving

Earlier this year, my husband and I purchased our first home here in Kentucky! But since we started visiting Tennessee regularly, we have been looking into some options and planning for our future if we were to ever move to Tennessee. I have learned quite a lot when we first moved into our home and wanted to share some moving tips with you all! For this blog post, imagine you’re looking into Williamson County (Franklin), Tennessee.

1. Crime Rate & Cost of Living

First and foremost we must do our research and look at the crime rates of the places we’re interested in! For Franklin, TN I found that this website gave Franklin a B- rating and it stated that that meant it is safer than the average U.S city! But don’t just count on one website, really take time and research! Now, make sure you research the cost of living; in Kentucky, our sales tax is 6% while in Tennessee it is 7%. There is also a website I found that will do a comparison for you! It stated that Where I want to be was 12% higher than where I am when it comes to housing costs. That may not sound like much but it is a big change when you think about it. Nerd Wallet (the website) can also calculate/predict more than just the housing costs. For instance, it also stated that Healthcare is also 14% higher… On the bright side, transportation costs are 6% less!

2. Job Opportunities

Make sure you look into job opportunities in this area! When I searched LinkedIn gave me over one hundred hits on job offers. For me, I would look for a job in writing or journalism so I searched on Indeed.com and found at least 15 writing/journalism jobs on the first two pages that looked legit. Take into account the population which when recorded in 2019 stated, 238,412 people, resided in Williamson County.

3. Moving Service

When moving, there are quite a lot of moving services out there, but only a few stand out. Why may you need a moving service, you ask? Sometimes it just relieves the stress off of you. One of the most stressful events in one’s life is moving. Movers, take part of that stress away! I know of a good moving company in the Nashville area, Moving Solutions.

Let’s talk about Moving Solutions!

Moving Solutions is such a great business and their team is honest and quite hard-working. Moving Solutions provides residential and commercial moving services in Nashville, TN, Nashville Metropolitan Area, and surrounding areas. Franklin TN, being one of the areas. They also give FREE ESTIMATES which are also a stress relief! Get the price before you choose and pay.

They also have a long list of various services that could be helpful to you, such as, office moving, labor only, local moves, packing services, long-distance, senior moving, delivery services, piano, and pool table moving. They are also hot tub movers in Nashville, TN!

The fact that they do long-distance moving has me sold! Especially in this scenario, I have in this blog post! But to seal the deal for you, just give them a call at 866-923-2145.

When I saw that they donated 10% to local businesses that are or have been affected by the pandemic, I just had to share! Great people, amazing business! Check them out by clicking here!

4. Weather/Climate

Compare the weather/climate! See if you’d even be happy with the climate before moving so it doesn’t cause disappointment. Kentucky and Tennessee are very similar in their climates and both have very strange weather that likes to change in the blink of an eye so it would not be an issue for me or my husband!

5. “Is This Place a Good Fit For Me?”

Finally, this is where you’ll finish research the area to see if it’s ‘a a match’! Look into the restaurants, schools, shopping centers, things to do, subdivisions and housing areas, etc. to see if you’d be happy there! You’d be amazed at how many people move, only to be disappointed with the area and their surroundings. For example, let’s say I’m a partier and want to move to Nashville cause it fits my personality. Instead of doing extensive research, I decided to move there just off my knowledge of it being a popular city for tourists and great for parting in general… But I move to find out that it’s crowded, too noisy and I ended up spending all my savings because of that one thing that interested me. So then I start messing up on work, school, etc. This is why research is so important and why you want to look at more than just what there is to do and the cost of living. MAKE A T-CHART! For example, Franklin Tennessee would be a great fit for me and my husband because we both love cute subtle towns with things to do and beautiful scenery! There would be plenty of job opportunities for us both and the cost of living isn’t too bad. On the other hand, it will cost a ton starting out living there compared to just moving in the current state we already reside in. And it’s much more crowded than our quaint little town here in central Kentucky. Make sure you write all the pros, and all the cons.

Final Thoughts

Those are the tips! If they have helped you in any way or if you have followed similar tips like these let me know down below how they worked for you! Don’t forget to check out Moving Solutions, I’ll be using them if I ever need to!

Find Yourself with a Floral Class – Ky Bloggers Event Jan. 19th 2020

All photos except otherwise stated, were taken by Sarah Canton

Who would have thought, I would find a little bit more of myself, through a floral design class by Alexandra Pallos Floral.

I attended a Ky Bloggers event coordinated by Sarah Canton (@spaceplaceandgrace on Instagram) and we got to create our own floral arrangements. I had a lot of fun getting to choose the vase; they had different choices to decide on which was a plus!

I chose a short vase and started with the leaves as pictured above (I am not good at botany vocabulary but I’m sure some of you know what the greenery/leaves are called, LOL). They also had a variety of flowers to choose from in buckets on the tables that wrapped around the room, very easy to get to each of them and pick out the flowers you want! I yellow marigolds laid out, but I ended up not using them and instead, chose pale pink roses, and flowers that were vibrant purple, white, green, etc. I wanted to go with a cool, but not so collected look if that makes sense. At first I was so unsure about what all I had picked and put together, but Alex (owner of Alexandra Pallos Floral) helped me out a bit and helped me realize that I had a vision. We all have a vision for what we want.

Here is where I am going to get cheesy, but you gotta listen! We all have a vision for what we want in life! But we need to go after it! We need to not be so down about it and believe! If you can see it when you close your eyes, you can manifest it in front of you, and that is also what I had done with my floral arrangement. And voila!

I used self-timer for this pic…

Anyways, I found out that I love making floral arrangements too! And I am sure y’all would love making them too! Be sure to check out Alexandra Pallos Floral on Instagram, just click here. And be sure to check their website out as well by clicking here!

Again, please go check them out! And thank you so much Sarah Canton for coordinating this awesome event!

Sun Valley Farm “At the Crossroad of Bourbon & Horses”

I went on a thoroughbred nursery tour, and my goodness the foals were adorable!

I went with a group of fellow Kentucky Bloggers to Sun Valley Farm to enjoy a nice day and for their thoroughbred nursery tour which I enjoyed very much. Between the complimentary wine and catering provided by Sweet Lili’s Catering and Equus Vineyards, and the foals it was truly a nice afternoon!

The whole time I was with the horses and learning more about how Sun Valley Farm cares for the foals, I was missing my hometown of Garrard Co. Kentucky. Versailles is such a gorgeous place out in the country. It pretty much took me back in time and made me feel nostalgic. I am a lover of animals, and getting to know the process of their care and such had me in awe. It was an educational experience that I had actual fun on and enjoyed thoroughly. The staff was super kind, and very knowledgeable of what they were explaining which gave more of a professional vibe while on the tour. I definitely recommend Sun Valley Farm if you are someone wanting to look into the business of horses or simply if you would like to treat your children to an amazing experience that involves petting the horses!

Photo taken by Muse Marketing Photography

While attending this event I had been invited to with fellow bloggers in Kentucky, I was alone as in, I came by myself not knowing anyone personally but following their accounts and connecting with them via the web. So I was scared to go to this event, I didn’t think my anxiety would allow me to truly enjoy myself. Boy was I wrong, I didn’t feel left out, nor like any of them were strangers. I felt instant connections with not only the foals and horses but those who are in the same boat as me as well as the owners of Sun Valley Farm. This was definitely an experience for the books.

Here are some more photos from the tour:

You’ll never know what you will run into while on this tour…

We ran into many different things while on the tour here at Sun Valley Farm (located in Versailles, Ky.) Such as a mama horse getting an ultrasound to see if the baby is healthy. I never seen a horse receiving an ultrasound, it was such a private moment I felt I was intruding on, but it was so interesting and I had to take a peek! It was a little awkward as the man’s hand and arm was deep in there (AND I MEAN DEEP IN THERE), but it was such a beautiful sight as you turned your focus onto the monitor and viewed the ultrasound. It was an experience I finally can mark on my just written down bucket-list!

You don’t just find horses and foals here, but cats as well! While me and the other Ky influencers/bloggers waited for the tour to start, a cat came out of the bathroom of the tiny room we were waiting in. A medium orange and some white furred cat jumped on the table just looking for someone to pet him. His name was Sheldon, and the tour guide (son of the owners) Brett shared with us that he had the sniffles. He was so cute though (the cat, sorry Brett.)

Some more information about Sun Valley Farm:

Sun Valley Farm was also home of the top two ranked horses on the Kentucky Derby Trail since 2013. I find that to be a super cool fact that I am sure they are proud to have!

They offer daily tours starting at 9;30 am, that start at just $20 you can book your tour online at: http://www.VisitSunValleyMares.com !

Where is this farm located you may ask? Well, put this into your Google Maps or whatever map app you may use: Sun Valley Farm 556 New Cut Road Versailles, Ky 40383.

Big shout out to the wine company that helped cater along side Sweet Lili’s Catering, Equus Vineyards!

Photo taken by Muse Marketing Photography

The drink I tried was a Blackberry Chardonnay, I do so believe. Unfortunately, I haven’t acquired a taste for wine or that particular one. It was sweet at first, but the aftertaste wasn’t for me. I do however know that all the others enjoyed the wines and I think those who have the taste for them would enjoy a local winery such as Equus Vineyard!

Photo taken by Muse Marketing Photography

Sweet Lili’s Catering is definetely a catering service I enjoyed! The food I tried from them was:

  • Mini Candied Bacon BLT
  • Goat Cheese and Caramelized Onion Tarts
  • Caprese Skewers

The food was delicious!

Photo taken by Muse Marketing Photography

We also not only got to enjoy some treats with the owners of Sun Valley Farm, we got the chance to see their beautiful historical house which was built near/in the late 1800’s.

I met some awesome people that day, and experienced some amazing things!

One more shout out to the amazing woman who coordinated/organized this event, Marie Pullen! She is a blogger from Kentucky; you can find her website and read her blogs here: http://www.BackroadBluegrass.com! I met her for the first time yesterday and she is such an awesome person! I love her personality and how she lights up the room. She is truly the life of the party!
