Earlier this year, my husband and I purchased our first home here in Kentucky! But since we started visiting Tennessee regularly, we have been looking into some options and planning for our future if we were to ever move to Tennessee. I have learned quite a lot when we first moved into our home and wanted to share some moving tips with you all! For this blog post, imagine you’re looking into Williamson County (Franklin), Tennessee.

1. Crime Rate & Cost of Living
First and foremost we must do our research and look at the crime rates of the places we’re interested in! For Franklin, TN I found that this website gave Franklin a B- rating and it stated that that meant it is safer than the average U.S city! But don’t just count on one website, really take time and research! Now, make sure you research the cost of living; in Kentucky, our sales tax is 6% while in Tennessee it is 7%. There is also a website I found that will do a comparison for you! It stated that Where I want to be was 12% higher than where I am when it comes to housing costs. That may not sound like much but it is a big change when you think about it. Nerd Wallet (the website) can also calculate/predict more than just the housing costs. For instance, it also stated that Healthcare is also 14% higher… On the bright side, transportation costs are 6% less!
2. Job Opportunities
Make sure you look into job opportunities in this area! When I searched LinkedIn gave me over one hundred hits on job offers. For me, I would look for a job in writing or journalism so I searched on Indeed.com and found at least 15 writing/journalism jobs on the first two pages that looked legit. Take into account the population which when recorded in 2019 stated, 238,412 people, resided in Williamson County.
3. Moving Service
When moving, there are quite a lot of moving services out there, but only a few stand out. Why may you need a moving service, you ask? Sometimes it just relieves the stress off of you. One of the most stressful events in one’s life is moving. Movers, take part of that stress away! I know of a good moving company in the Nashville area, Moving Solutions.
Let’s talk about Moving Solutions!
Moving Solutions is such a great business and their team is honest and quite hard-working. Moving Solutions provides residential and commercial moving services in Nashville, TN, Nashville Metropolitan Area, and surrounding areas. Franklin TN, being one of the areas. They also give FREE ESTIMATES which are also a stress relief! Get the price before you choose and pay.
They also have a long list of various services that could be helpful to you, such as, office moving, labor only, local moves, packing services, long-distance, senior moving, delivery services, piano, and pool table moving. They are also hot tub movers in Nashville, TN!
The fact that they do long-distance moving has me sold! Especially in this scenario, I have in this blog post! But to seal the deal for you, just give them a call at 866-923-2145.

When I saw that they donated 10% to local businesses that are or have been affected by the pandemic, I just had to share! Great people, amazing business! Check them out by clicking here!
4. Weather/Climate
Compare the weather/climate! See if you’d even be happy with the climate before moving so it doesn’t cause disappointment. Kentucky and Tennessee are very similar in their climates and both have very strange weather that likes to change in the blink of an eye so it would not be an issue for me or my husband!
5. “Is This Place a Good Fit For Me?”
Finally, this is where you’ll finish research the area to see if it’s ‘a a match’! Look into the restaurants, schools, shopping centers, things to do, subdivisions and housing areas, etc. to see if you’d be happy there! You’d be amazed at how many people move, only to be disappointed with the area and their surroundings. For example, let’s say I’m a partier and want to move to Nashville cause it fits my personality. Instead of doing extensive research, I decided to move there just off my knowledge of it being a popular city for tourists and great for parting in general… But I move to find out that it’s crowded, too noisy and I ended up spending all my savings because of that one thing that interested me. So then I start messing up on work, school, etc. This is why research is so important and why you want to look at more than just what there is to do and the cost of living. MAKE A T-CHART! For example, Franklin Tennessee would be a great fit for me and my husband because we both love cute subtle towns with things to do and beautiful scenery! There would be plenty of job opportunities for us both and the cost of living isn’t too bad. On the other hand, it will cost a ton starting out living there compared to just moving in the current state we already reside in. And it’s much more crowded than our quaint little town here in central Kentucky. Make sure you write all the pros, and all the cons.
