Local Lex Market Celebrates ONE-Year Anniversary!

Pictured with me is, Danielle of Octane Designs & Ky Creatives

I was recently invited by Kentucky Creatives and Bluegrass Collaborative to stop by Local Lex Market and even did some shopping for their one-year anniversary! It honestly feels like yesterday that they just opened!

What is the Local Lex Market?

The Local Lex Market is a gift shop that specializes in craft, homemade, and local goods made by locals! The shop is located at 439 Southland Drive, Lexington, Ky; stated on their website, they’re a year-round, multi-maker market! You can also find personalized goods here as well, and explore a variety of local shops and goods. You can check out more about them via their website and other Instagram!

Local Lex Market’s One-Year Anniversary Event

The event was so fun, and the cake was delicious! I also have to give many props to the Bluegrass Collaborative and Kentucky Creatives for the awesome mocktail influencer bar! It was gorgeous, and the sweets from Tammy’s Sweet Treats and Mother Clucking Products were delightful!

Cheers! From Me and Marie

I ended up shopping, and I have to rave about Modern Zen Candle Company; I got to smell and receive a sample of their upcoming April scents, and they didn’t disappoint! I recommend checking them out.

I also grabbed a few other items and the goodie bag from Local Lex Market, Kentucky Creatives, and the Bluegrass Collaborative. The goodie bag featured wax melts, a beautiful mug by Blue Lotus Pottery, A KY shirt from 2 Mother Hustlers, a gorgeous key chain, popcorn from Tammy’s Sweet Tasty Treats, and dog treats by Khristi’s K-9 Kookies, and more!

More about Kentucky Creatives

As I mentioned above, I was invited as a part of Ky Creatives to come to Local Lex Market’s first anniversary! Ky Creatives is a group of influencers/bloggers/creatives local to Kentucky that helps share and promote Kentucky businesses! You can check out more about Ky Creatives by visiting their Instagram!

“Carol Worsham opened the boutique after 40+ years in the real estate industry. She wanted to just do something in retirement that brought joy to people, and gift boutiques can certainly do that!” said Fred at Ada & Lo.

They are located at 390 Southland Drive, in Lexington, Ky!

Kentucky Bloggers Event Photos & Info.

I had the lovely chance of being invited by The Bluegrass Collaborative/Marie Pullen of Bluegrass Blog to see this gorgeous boutique a few weeks ago, and it was tough to leave without bags full of stuff! They have everything, including cups and jewelry – I even saw some cute Derby hats!

There were also all sorts of delicious food and desserts made by Faith Bakes and Selmas Catering and wine from Vine & Branch. Everything was so tasty and enjoyable!

Final Thoughts

Overall, I believe this boutique is perfect all around, and if you need a gift to give, then this place has it! I saw some bridal stuff, Kentucky stuff, animal lover stuff, a whole variety of things to gift! So I suggest checking them out.

OUR FIRST HOME | One Year Anniversary

We were so excited to finally close on our first home; it took a while to find the perfect place for us, but luckily we found it. We were blessed to have such a fantastic realtor who helped tremendously. Suppose you need to sell or look for a new house, I recommend Lauren Bell. You can check out her Facebook page by clicking here

“What Was the Process Like?”

Jake and I were lost. We were looking around, and it honestly was a miracle we found such a great house in the time frame we did. But Lauren Bell helped us with looking for something that not only fit our needs but our comfort zones as well-meaning the price was in our range, and the location was PERFECT! She did so much for us, and we thank her a million times for it! Even the inspectors we used were very thorough and overall excellent. We used Elite Pest Control for the termite inspection, and the person who came was very knowledgeable and got the job done! We also used David Cheek from Hometown Heating & Air as the HVAC inspector! He, too, did a great job overlooking everything – They do service calls, repairs, and more! They offer FREE estimates on NEW systems, and they offer a maintenance program where you can have two maintenance a year for just $140 and $99 for each additional unit. You can check their website out and learn more by clicking here.

What some Parts of the House Looked Like Prior to our early ‘Renovations’

When we offered this house, we knew there would be work that needed to get done (your inspector should also give you a list of things that need attention), and it was no problem. What my family members have told me is, “you’ll never really be finished with the house,” and that is so true! It’s like we’ve been doing something with it every week since we moved here last February. We were not complaining because it has been and continues to be super fun renovating, changing things, decorating, etc. Below is a shortlist of some of the “before” and “after” photos. I’ll also include small galleries or extra pictures to better show! The person who lived here before us was a considerable smoker who smoked in every single room, it seemed. So we had to buy a lot of Kills primer and paint to cover it up and get rid of the smell. The paint was EXPENSIVE.

Before

After

Other Photos:

Of course, all of the photos I showed didn’t show everything. I believe we still have a lot more to do, and I wasn’t ready to show most of it; I still have plans for flooring, etc.

My Advice for Those Searching for Their First Home

If I had to give any advice, I would tell them to save up for necessities and things you’ll need to renovate ASAP if the house wasn’t bought or bought “ready.” The paint was super expensive; it took a lot of sweat to wash the walls down and clean up before painting and moving in. Make sure to hire inspectors for different types of things such as a typical house inspector, a pest/termite inspector (IMPORTANT), HVAC inspector, all of that. It helped us know what we needed to do when it came time to move in and when we needed to renovate.

I also would advise, to have patience. You will look at many unique houses; some of your offers may fall through, but never lose hope of finding the perfect place! We had bid for a different home, and it fell through. It turns out a week later, there was a gas leak. We still talk about how that was a blessing in disguise to this day. But because of that, we also found our home. I am also pretty happy we got this one instead.

Final Thoughts

Overall, we absolutely love our home and still cherish everything about it one year later. I know so many were excited to see all the changes, but I’m not ready, nor are all the changes finished quite yet. Once they do, though, you can view them in my story highlight, “Home Sweet Home” on Instagram under my bio! Be sure you’re following me on Instagram, so you don’t miss updates and news!

Valentine’s Day Market – Haul

I attended Oak & Main’s Valentine’s Market and had quite the blast! Learned some new local businesses and met up with some friendly faces! I didn’t get the chance to stop at every booth, but I snagged their business cards so I could share them with you!

Valentine’s Market Haul

There was so much stuff to choose from, and I’m already excited for the next market they host because there is always such amazing and unique stuff to choose from every time!

DiModa Earrings

I just had to have these cute Valentine’s Day earrings! They also have a variety of jewelry and accessories to choose from as well! DiModa specializes in handcrafted clay jewelry! Their email is DiModa121@gmail.com.

Lou’s Sugar Shoppe

This booth had some awesome and delicious Valentine’s Day goodies that I had to grab! So I chose a hot cocoa bomb and a Valentine cup that featured a cocoa bomb inside.

Paris Printing Company

My husband saw this towel and just had to grab it! It will definitely be the most sentimental hand towel we will own. I mean, it says our hometown’s name on it! And it’s just so cute.

Sprout Florals

I had to grab this adorable bouquet of flowers; they were calling my name! The bouquet was so pretty and is still so beautifully displayed in my living room!

A few other businesses/booths:

A Closer Look at My Makeup…

If you love makeup and love watching others do their makeup, consider following me on Instagram & TikTok as I post about makeup very often and even upload progression videos on TikTok (but I also do lots of cosplay as well on there!) I’m still currently debating on starting a YouTube channel – but that may happen soon!

Ky CBD Farmacy – Local CBD Shop

Nicholasville’s One Stop Shop For All Your CBD Needs

Pictured, Robert Matheny (right) & Rachael Osland (left)

Their Story

Robert Matheny, the owner of Ky CBD Farmacy, shared that he had been watching his mom battle cancer for over a decade. Towards the end, hemp was becoming a thing, and he didn’t believe in hemp at all, so he decided to look more into the plant because if there was a chance that plant could help his mother, he had to figure it out.

Rachael Osland, the co-owner and Robert’s significant other, was in a wreck in 2015 in Nicholasville – head-on drunk driving collision, and lost her 5-year-old daughter, 10-year-old son, and 26-year-old fiance. After her recovery from the hospital, Rachael decided to test alongside Robert the effects of CBD. They soon realized that the plant worked. Once they figured out how it worked, they started sourcing different vendors around the state. There are thousands of different kinds of cannabis/hemp. Both Rachael and Robert are activists for CBD.

Ky CBD Farmacy is one of the best CBD companies in Kentucky that I have shopped at, and have seen the difference with; It is also worth noting that CBD works best when you’re taking the correct dose! You can visit their website for more information!

What You Can Expect To Find

Ky CBD Farmacy has a little something for everyone’s CBD needs! Capsules, oil, bath bombs – YES, CBD BATHBOMBS – vape cartridges, and more. They also offer other items from local vendors such as soaps, incense, etc. You’ll have to visit and see for yourself! Ky CBD Farmacy has two locations, one in Nicholasville and one in Danville, Ky!

Their Best-Sellers

One of their best-selling items includes the 1250mg & 2250mg capsules – CO2 extracted oil they chose out of Bullitt County, Ky. Another best-selling item is their 750mg back and body cream!

My Review –

I have been using their 1250mg CBD oil, which is so great for sleep! It’s been a week since I have started on it, and as a heavy melatonin user, I haven’t had to use any in the past two nights! It felt like I was under a weighted blanket when I first tried the oil, and I felt relieved and relaxed. This was just my experience, and it has been my experience since I first tried it. I had the chance to try all kinds of oil there, and this one is, by far, my favourite.

Worth Mentioning

Recently it has been confirmed (Oregan State) in a study that cannabinoids prevent COVID. You can read the link/source by clicking here.

Hemp compounds identified by Oregon State University research via a chemical screening technique invented at OSU show the ability to prevent the virus that causes COVID-19 from entering human cells.

Kroger’s Hometown Pickup Service

Kroger continues to roll latest feature – Kroger’s Hometown Pickup

I have partnered with Kroger and wanted to share that I ordered my groceries this past weekend using the Kroger Hometown Pickup service – it was easy and convenient. You can use the Kroger app to shop and place an order in minutes. I feel this service/feature can be super helpful to many of my fellow Kentuckians and others with this service in their area, especially those in rural areas!

Here is a step-by-step on how you can also order your groceries – quick and easy!

Here is a link you can use, to directly go to Kroger, and start shopping!

Step One: Sign in to Kroger and choose your Hometown Pickup location!

Step Two: Start adding items to your cart! If anything is out of stock, they can do substitutions which is your choice!

Step Three: Once you’re done shopping, you can click your cart, and check out pickup.

Step Four: Make sure the location you want to pick up from is correct, and schedule the Hometown Pickup!

Step Five: Time to pay and place your order!

Final Thoughts

When we arrived at the Hometown Pickup site, we pulled next to the truck, and I gave the driver my order number, and he loaded them in my back seat; I didn’t even have to get out of the comfort of my car!

I loved my experience with Kroger’s Hometown Pickup service, and I believe you will too! Right now, you can save $15 on your first three orders of $35+ by clipping the coupon on the main page when you click the link I mentioned above! – Or you can click the link in my bio over on my Instagram

I had the chance to meet the owner, Jose Victorino! He said what inspired him to get into this business was with the help of his wife, and together they got healthier, and now want to help others as well, which may also need some guidance and support into a healthier lifestyle. Jessamine County Homeless Coalition – A “Look” Inside

If you are in the urgent need or know someone in need of shelter here in Jessamine County, please go ahead and visit this website for the JCHC: https://www.jchcky.com/

Founder of JCHC pictured when they partnered with AdventureServe Ministries; photo sourced from their Facebook Page

Backstory of How the Homeless Shelter Started

The Jessamine County Homeless Coalition became a legal non-profit in May 2016. However, they opened for operation in Nov 2016. When asking Johnny Templin, the Executive Director and Founder for JCHC, about the background and how JCHC came to be, he replied, “in January 2015, our food pantry opened. After praying into it for two weeks, God clearly answered. Preachers all of a sudden started asking me for resources for homeless people. After two weeks, I submitted and decided to start the process and make it legal in our coming.”

Something worth mentioning is how they host great and sometimes unique events, remember my blog post on the 2021 Jessamine County Fall Festival? They were the hosts and organizers/operators of the event! As well as the Jessamine Maze Days Event.

Programs and Services Offered at the Moment

There are quite a few good programs at JCHC that are beneficial to individuals in urgent need and any community members needing any of the provided and open (to the community) services listed below.

  • Community Laundry – One load per household nightly from 5pm – 7pm.

Please visit their website for more information on these services, listed at the top of this post.

How We Can Help

There are so many ways we can give and help out others here at the Jessamine County Homeless Coalition/shelter. Did you know there are even little ways that go big we can do? Such as using your Kroger Card or shopping on Amazon? It is a neat way to give back, even without thinking sometimes.

Other ways we can help are by volunteering and donating! If you are considering donating to JCHC, please visit this web page to see what they need and more information; the web page also features more information about how you can use your Kroger card and Amazon.

For monetary donations, you donate via Venmo to @jchcky.

Jessamine County’s Seventh Annual Christmas Fest

St. “Nich” Christmas Fest Saturday, December 11th, 2021

In this blog post, I am going to be sharing my time at the Christmas Fest, so for those that didn’t get to attend, know what may be in store for next year! Unfortunately, I only got to attend three things, but they were all so fun! I also want to add, everything about the fest was amazing. It felt so nice connecting with the community. We are so blessed to have such a strong, small-town that truly cares about one another and does things like this. I hope everyone who got to go had a great time.

K-CAL Old Time Radio Christmas Show – 2:30pm

My husband and I had a blast watching the Christmas Show at the K-CAL Old Time Radio Theatre. I have done a blog previously on this place, and if you would like to give that blog a read, click here! I absolutely adore the cats and producers, and this Christmas show was a great one! My husband was also lucky enough to attend his first time and win their door prize! It was a great ‘ole time! The show was so suspenseful and overall engaging.

Oak and Main Maker’s Market

I went to the Oak and Main Winter Maker’s Market and had an absolute blast networking and shopping with local Kentucky businesses! I also really want to highlight one business in particular or, well, a few I got to buy from while there! There were many female-owned businesses, and it made me happy to see it! I love supporting fellow girl bosses! Some mentioned may not be labeled as female-owned, but most I will list are!

Hidden Homestead – Berry, Kentucky/Harrison County Business

FEMALE-OWNED BUSINESS! They had a booth at this Winter Market selling baked goods; when I got to talking, I learned that they were actually a meat company that will deliver to all over Kentucky! But they also do a lot of baked goods that you can also order. Check them out on Facebook! The owners are Nicole & Angela Elbourn. I purchased their bourbon balls which did not disappoint!

Dyverse Gemz – Nicholoasville, Kentucky/Jessamine County Business

I visited this booth on my way out, and immediately the design of her wax melts caught my eye. They are so adorable! The scent I bought was Kentucky Bourbon, and it smelled so good, especially when I went home to change out the wax warmer. I also tried her body cream, and it felt nice to the touch. Check out their website by clicking here, and don’t forget to check out their Instagram.

Hand Crafted at Whiskey Spring Farm – Lancaster, Kentucky/Garrard County Business

This was one of the first booths we visited, and my husband actually picked out this really cute Kentucky blue ornament; I was shocked he wanted to pick the ornament out; he has excellent taste! They make all kinds of cute crafts, and I believe they do customs as well. You can view their Facebook page by clicking here! Also, check out their website!

Fancy Marcelli/Mad Ginger Entertainment

They actually have a true-crime podcast! I bought this lovely ornament pictured below because, as some of you who know me, know Facebook always puts me in “time out,” but hey, I’ve actually been a good this year! Anyhoo, I just had to get this humourous but adorable Facebook Inmate ornament! It was also nice meeting one of the owners and getting to know about how they are into true crime, just like I am! Click here to visit their website and check them out on Facebook!

Beyond Sight Creations – Nicholasville, Kentucky/Jessamine County Business

I have stumbled upon this booth multiple times, and every time it is just so pleasing to the eye. They make amazing jewelry out of stones, crystals, and more. I bought a dainty emerald ring to represent my birthstone and color. It was so gorgeous, and I had to have it! You can find them on Facebook by clicking here and on Instagram!

Wildling Wanderlust – Nicholasville, Kentucky/Jessamine County Business

It was so nice meeting Logan; their jewelry is absolutely amazing! I bought a pair of cute snowflake earrings to wear this Winter season and am so excited to coordinate them with vintage outfits. They have amazing rings, earrings, and more! Definitely give them a follow on Instagram by clicking here!

Amanecer Michelle Body and Beauty – Nicholasville, Kentucky/Jessamine County Business

I enjoyed talking to the owner of this business! I also ended up buying a nice body butter by the name of Pink Sugar. It smells amazing and feels so good to the hands, great for Winter use for anyone who has dry hands! You can visit her Facebook page by clicking here and can click here to view her website!

Sweet & Sassy Jam and Jellies

I got to try their Strawberry Lemonade flavor of Jam, and it was by far the tastiest jam I ever had in my life! I will definitely be purchasing more in the future. You can check them out on Facebook and Instagram!

More Businesses That Were There:

And there were many more! To see everything from my haul, check out my story highlight, Holidays 2021! If you aren’t on this list but would like to be, please email me at caitie@lifewithcaitie.com if you were a vendor at Oak & Main’s Winter Market. If any wrong information or more you would like me to add, also shoot me an email!

Whimsy Cosmos Booth

St. Nich Christmas Parade

To wrap up the Christmas Fest (there were many more events, but I could only attend these three, there was the St. Nich Christmas Parade! It was so fun for children and even the adults! My favorite part was by far the Grinch escaping only to be caught by the police! It was funny and very entertaining.

Photos in the gallery above were sent in/submitted by Laronda Royse – The Parade

Thank You

If you stuck around until the end, thank you. I love sharing about this community and supporting local businesses and events. Please consider subscribing to the blog, and if you are interested in being featured in a future blog, you can email me at caitie@lifewithcaitie.com!

Before You Go…

Western Kentucky suffered significant losses in their communities. It is so heartbreaking and devastating. Mayfield, Bowling Green, Dawson Springs, and more Western Ky towns need help. I know Shop Local Ky raised over $100,000, and multiple people have been helping them in clean up. If you too would like to contribute and help, there are many ways you can. I have a story highlight on my Instagram titled “Ky Strong,” in there, you will find multiple sources and other ways you can help the storm/tornado victims. We are in this together. Andy Beshear also set up this government page for anyone who wishes to donate to these communities, linked below.
