A Kentucky Friendsgiving

In this blog post, I am going to share my pecan pie recipe and share where you can find more tasty recipes in collaboration with fellow Kentucky bloggers/creators to give you all the best dessert recipes you could ask for! I do encourage everyone to check out each of the creators listed as I will have their websites and Instagrams linked + their full recipes will be on their Instagram! Old-New Fashioned Pecan Pie

Ingredients Needed:

  • Maple Syrup
  • Sea Salt
  • Packed Light-Brown Sugar
  • White Granulated Sugar
  • Three Large Eggs
  • Chopped Pecans
  • Pecan Halves
  • Real Vanilla Extract
  • Pie Crust
  • Unsalted Butter
  • All-Purpose Flour

What To Do:

Have your pie crust rolled out and ready in the desired pie pan, I like to use glass pie pans for looks really. Then lather the crust with melted butter, all over. Remember to preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Now, sit to the side! Next, in a small saucepan, you will melt 3/4 stick of unsalted butter on medium heat. Once melted, add 1/2 cup of light brown sugar, and 1/2 cup of white granulated sugar and mix. Then add three-quarters of maple syrup, I prefer Michele’s Gourmet Butter Pecan Syrup as it is so rich in flavor and makes the pie tastier than corn syrup. Now you will pour this mixture into a mixing bowl and set it aside to cool. Next, you will beat three large eggs in a small bowl for approximately 1 minute and 30 seconds. Once time is up, sit the bowl of eggs down and go back to the mixing bowl and add a few pinches of salt, I prefer sea salt, and two tablespoons of the flour, mix. Then add 9 drops of real vanilla extract into the bowl along with 1/2 cup of chopped pecans, and 1 cup of pecan halves as well as the beaten eggs, and mix once more. Once all is mixed, it is then ready to pour into a pie pan on top of the buttery crust. Place in the oven, and let it cook for 45-51 minutes. Serve with whip cream, ice cream, or alone!

It Is Time For You To Put Yourself First

We have talked about how you can let go of the past and all that is holding you back, we’ve went over ways you can get over your fears and so much more. Now it is time to start putting yourself first! In this read, I will share ways that has helped me personally as well as others including my closet friends. By the end of this post you will be ready to finally start putting yourself first and hopefully without any guilt whatsoever.

First, let’s talk about WHY you need to start putting yourself first. For one, you’re probably exhausted right now and you NEED to REST! Second, it is a form of self love that everyone needs to practice! Third but not last, It helps us live a healthier life. Your physical an mental (possibly even spiritual) health depends on you practicing forms of self love… which include, putting yourself first! Now, we all heard about Jessie Gallan, the 109 year old woman who said her secret to living a long life was to avoid men! Now this could just be her adding humor and wanting to make people laugh but I think she was serious! Maybe avoiding men and being a strong independent woman was her way of putting herself first. Everyone puts themselves first in all kinds of ways. So to sum this up we can for sure interpret that her answer was, “self-love”.

Now let’s get to the ways we can put ourselves first:

  • Take care of your body – Take regular bubble baths or Epsom salt baths to help relieve tension and soreness in your body and be sure to moisturize all over after you get out of the shower. I like to take baths, relax, then shower and moisturize. It helps a ton! Also know when to quit, put your physical body first. Don’t forget to wash your hair and use a nice hair mask and face mask while bathing! Foot creams are also nice, especially if you’re on your feet all the time.
  • Write down your priorities – list things you will put first on your list to help you put yourself first.
  • Make sure to keep a balance between helping others and helping yourself to needs and wants – to help you balance simply create a T chart or go with the flow and remember there needs to be a balance. Balancing helps you put yourself first while allowing yourself to help others when they need it. Helpful when you have children or a significant other.
  • Make time for sleep – sleep purposely and plan to get 9 hours of sleep each week night. I say plan because I know there are women (maybe even men) reading this that have babies. Plan to get 9. Psychologists recommend 7-9 hours of sleep with 9 hours being the best you can aim for since there is a thing called REM (which you can look up, it is a big deal though when it come to sleeping in 3 hour increments).
  • Take care of your mind – Unfollow and unfriend toxicity and allow yourself to turn off the electronics once in a while. Resist lurking people’s profiles that tend to upset you and resist the urge to read the comment section of your local news stations on Facebook. Better your life in these ways and I promise affirmations will help you think in a more positive light.
  • Start saying “no” – saying no when that is what you want or need to say will literally change your life. I promise you.
  • Know when to ask for help – put your pride aside and understand that sometimes we need a little help. Like, if you’re exhausted and have a lot of chores and the baby won’t stop crying — call for help. Don’t feel ashamed. If you’re overwhelmed with studying, ask for help so you can understand or take initiative and ask to copy notes if you had to take a rest day from school (college). Know when to ask for help, and don’t feel ashamed.
  • Know that you’re important, but don’t overdue yourself – You are important! People need you and some rely on you, however, don’t let that take over your life. Make some time for you. Create windows for when you will allow yourself to help others and create windows where you give time to only you.
  • Eat Healthier – Keeping in mind what you put into your body will help you in so many ways. Your body will thank you.

Now keep in mind, once you start putting yourself first you will feel guilty, as it is new to you and you are figuring out the balance. Remind yourself why you need to put yourself first and that it is okay to feel guilty but you don’t have to feel guilty. You may have feelings where you feel selfish, shake those ideas out of your head because practicing the ways to put yourself first I gave you are anything but selfish! Most of those things are necessities!

If you feel that people will judge you or they’re thinking bad of you because you’re putting yourself you must let go of those thoughts and if they come at you in negative ways they are toxic, you may need to cut them off, or simply let them know why and ENCOURAGE THEM to put themselves first too.

I know during COVID how crazy some of us are going since trick-o-treating has been frowned upon/cancelled/not suggested. Jessamine Co. Kentucky cancelled their ‘Treats on Main’, however, kept the door-to-door festivities going. Legally they cannot cancel or make it illegal to still go trick-o-treating though, I know some of us do not want to risk it and practice the unofficial Holiday at home. Well this is the ultimate guide for you if that pertains to you! Even if you plan on going door-to-door, these are some activities everyone can do and enjoy! At the end I will also share tips on passing out candy during this Holiday intertwined with the pandemic.

TOP 10 Healthy at Home Halloween Celebration Ideas:

1) Carve Some Pumpkins!

Pumpkin Carving kits are easy to find, I got mine at Kroger but of course you can just use simple materials such as a knife and a big spoon to help you get the pumpkin’s insides scooped out to carve! I absolutely adore this activity because it isn’t just fun as children; I still enjoy pumpkin carving like I did as a young child!

2) Exchange “Boo” Boxes with Others!

This one is a fun one! So I am in many Facebook groups and just so happen to also be apart of a Fall & Halloween lovers group as well as the many other groups I am in. So I did not come up with this myself, I found this idea on said group! Someone wrote something on the lines of, “I am looking for a boo box buddy/pen pal who would like to ship each other a box containing Fall and Halloween goodies!”, I definitely took them up on their offer. I ended up sending 5 total boo boxes. Overall this was so fun and I recommend others to do it if they also enjoy this season!

3) Dress Up Anyway at Home!

Dress up anyway! Halloween is too fun and life is too short to miss out on dressing up! I have heard from some people they aren’t dressing up this year but why? For many years dressing up for Halloween has been a tradition (for many) and it has also been used as self expression. People often express themselves dressing up by dressing as their idols, career paths, their favourite characters from books and movies, and etc. One of my favourite costume expressions are those from different eras though, some misinterpret the era they were going for. So don’t skip this year, dressing up is too fun to skip!

4) Bake & Decorate!

Hocus Pocus Buns (Easy | 20 min)

Ingredients:

  • Pillsbury Croissant Dough
  • Jumbo Marshmallows
  • Ground Cinnamon
  • Sugar
  • Butter

How to Make: Roll the dough in a ball, then rip a spot to shove the marshmallow in (LOL), close the dough and make into a finer ball. Dip in melted butter, then dip in sugar, then roll it around in the cinnamon as long as you want then place on a cookie sheet. Takes about 10 minutes max to bake. They call them hocus pocus buns because the marshmallow disappears! This is a tasty and inexpensive treat to make! 11/10 recommend.

Easy Cupcakes (EASY | 35 min.)

Ingredients:

  • Cupcake Mix
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Frosting
  • Sprinkles
  • Edible Decoration you Bought from Kroger/Walmart
  • Cupcake Cups
  • Cupcake Baking Pan

How to create: Mix the cake mix with what you need to (directions should be on back of the box) then add some Vanilla Extract to make it taste a little more homemade. I usually put a pinch of the extract in mine. Then mix again. Now, pour the cake into the cups in the cupcake pan. Now bake for approx. 17-21 minutes unless done before then. Take them out of the oven, let cool for about 25 min. Add the frosting to the cupcakes once cooled. then sprinkle some Halloween-ish sprinkles. Then add a cute Halloween edible decoration on top and begin to serve!

Yeah, my recipes are kind of satire, but let’s be honest, I am not a cook or a baker. I figured I would give you all some easy ones that I have done myself! Now the Hocus Pocus Buns, they are actually sooooo good.

5) Host a Halloween Treasure Hunt with the Kiddos

This would be so fun for kiddos! You know how on Easter they look for eggs and they have candy in them? Do it for Halloween! Make up your own rules! Hide the candy in pumpkin like eggs, make them find a “special” painted pumpkin for money or whatnot! You can have an indoor treasure hunt or do it outside! This is guaranteed fun while being healthy at home!

Other Things you Could Do:

  • Watch Movies and enjoy candy & popcorn!
  • Host a small 10 person Halloween party!
  • Have a Virtual Costume Contest!
  • Host a Halloween Watch Party on Facebook!

Find Yourself with a Floral Class – Ky Bloggers Event Jan. 19th 2020

Who would have thought, I would find a little bit more of myself, through a floral design class by Alexandra Pallos Floral.

I attended a Ky Bloggers event coordinated by Sarah Canton (@spaceplaceandgrace on Instagram) and we got to create our own floral arrangements. I had a lot of fun getting to choose the vase; they had different choices to decide on which was a plus!

I chose a short vase and started with the leaves as pictured above (I am not good at botany vocabulary but I’m sure some of you know what the greenery/leaves are called, LOL). They also had a variety of flowers to choose from in buckets on the tables that wrapped around the room, very easy to get to each of them and pick out the flowers you want! I yellow marigolds laid out, but I ended up not using them and instead, chose pale pink roses, and flowers that were vibrant purple, white, green, etc. I wanted to go with a cool, but not so collected look if that makes sense. At first I was so unsure about what all I had picked and put together, but Alex (owner of Alexandra Pallos Floral) helped me out a bit and helped me realize that I had a vision. We all have a vision for what we want.

Here is where I am going to get cheesy, but you gotta listen! We all have a vision for what we want in life! But we need to go after it! We need to not be so down about it and believe! If you can see it when you close your eyes, you can manifest it in front of you, and that is also what I had done with my floral arrangement. And voila!
