Wilmore Kentucky – Let’s Go Shopping

Wilmore, Ky is a quaint little town in Jessamine County. This treasure is often overlooked and deserves more recognition. I grew up in Nicholasville however, half of my childhood was spent in Wilmore. I even attended Asbury University for two years because this town just holds a very special place in my heart, it always will.

I was so excited when Ky Creatives invited me to come to experience their Fall Night Market, unfortunately, the last one of this year, however, there will be more to attend next year and I am so excited! Last weekend was the first time in a few months I visited Wilmore, and it was a very good visit. Not to mention that downtown Wilmore is just so beautiful and filled with love and happiness. It was also bittersweet because as I passed the old Sims drug store with a for lease sign it just flooded tons of memories for me. Sims was a special place, the atmosphere matched a 1960’s movie. They had the best pizza and ice cream. Thankfully, The Local Confectionery brought ice cream back to the main street, so I guess that makes up for it. Below are some shops I recommend you stop by next time you are in Wilmore.

Five Best Restaurants in Jessamine Co. Kentucky

Solomon’s Porch, Wilmore Ky Circa 2019

Being a native of Jessamine Co. I can assure you that I know all the great spots for all the local eats! From breakfast to supper! I will go over their main menu items and mention their BEST SELLING items on the menu! You do not want to miss these hidden treasures as they have delicious food that will have you coming back for seconds!

Solomon’s Porch – Wilmore

Solomon’s Porch was a big deal to me during my childhood, every time we got to go it would always bring a smile to my face. They had the best food and still do to this day! I and my husband went there a week ago and had a very pleasant brunch date. My Husband ordered the Breakfast of Kings – 2 eggs, 2 (GIANT) pancakes, and a choice of bacon or sausage. He said that those were the best dang pancakes he has ever eaten, and they are the best! So fluffy, very sweet, and delicious. I ordered my usual breakfast choice, which is the Breakfast Sandwich – 2 fried eggs topped with melted American cheese on a croissant. I added sausage as meat to mine and added a blueberry muffin, which warmed to my meal as well. It was so delicious! I love their muffins. It reminds me of when I went to college and me and my best friend Annie would always go grab muffins and get each other muffins sometimes out of the blue. I luckily had the chance to interview the restaurant operator/owner! Read below how the business started and more about their menu!

So I asked some questions and they answered! So the first question I asked was, “How did this business get started?” Her response, “Tim (my husband) and I were fresh out of Asbury College and newly married. We had daydreamed about the possibility of running a coffee shop when we were dating. Solomon’s Porch was an existing business that I often patronized as a student. It went on the market and we prayerfully considered buying it. We made a ridiculous offer (a prayerful fleece) to the owner, and he agreed to allow us to buy it. The business began originally in 1996 and went through three other sets of owners until we bought it in 2004. We have kept a good portion of the original menu, and have since added lots of other items. ” I then asked, “What is the most bought/purchased item(s) on the menu?” She replied, “There might be a tie between the classic C.S. Lewis and more recently added Appian Way sandwiches. CS Lewis is a turkey and Monterey Jack sandwich with honey mustard and sprouts, on a croissant. The Appian Way ( which was created by my husband Tim) is grilled deli chicken, Swiss cheese, tomato, spinach and pesto on a warm croissant”. Lastly, I was curious as to what their most purchased drink was as they are very well known for coffee in Wilmore and her response was, “We sell more of the regular drip coffee and lattes. Our coffee selection is a mixture of different roasters from Pittsburgh ( where I am from originally), Louisville, and Lexington. As far as the lattes are concerned the most popular on our year-round menu is Turtle Mocha with caramel, and chocolate powder. We feature new seasonal drink specials every couple of months. Right now we are featuring our spring dink list which includes: The Chubby Bunny ( Chocolate & Marshmallow Latte), The Spring Fling ( a Jasmine Tea fog with Vanilla), The Cherry Blossom (Cherry & Chocolate Latte), Almond Joy (Almond, Coconut, and Chocolate Latte) and the Honey Bee ( Honey breve latte).” This interview was super exciting to do and I hoped it enlightens you in some way and I hope they get to see you soon! Their menu is so creative and if you’re a Christian you will not want to miss this café while you’re in town! Even if you aren’t a Christian, it is still so so creative and amazing to visit! If you’re attending Asbury University at the moment, DO NOT FORGET to go to Solomon’s Porch, at least once.

The Cottage Café – Nicholasville

Cottage Café has been around for a while and even under other names one I remember being, The Rainbow. As a child, my uncle Eldon would bring me here all the time even though I ordered cereal like a boring child. Now I don’t think you can get cereal however, they do have much tastier items such as a hot brown, some old-fashioned breakfast, they tend to sell a ton of burgers too. If you live in Nicholasville and never have been to this café, you’re truly missing out! It is the best home cooking I have ever tasted in a restaurant! I sometimes get their burgers or their fried cauliflower. My husband is a big breakfast eater so he always gets eggs, hash browns, and of course fried ‘taters’. He says that it is the only restaurant in Nicholasville that will serve him, fried potatoes so there is that (LOL)! I also had the chance to interview Darlene, the owner here as well! Read below for the questions and answers!

The first question I asked was, “how long has this business been alive?” “14 years” they replied. I then wondered, “What inspired you to start this business?” She responded, “I waited tables for 5 years under the previous owner and he was selling it so my husband talked me into buying it.” I asked, “What is the best selling item on the menu?” She replied, “our hamburgers/cheeseburgers.” Which prompted me to ask, “best selling dessert?” and they replied once more, “our blackberry cobbler which we serve all year long!” I also know that they have the best root beer floats in town as well! I’m sure that is their second selling dessert item! If you have never been, I highly suggest you go try it now!

The Dixie Café – Keene

I have visited this café more than twice now and it has the best chili I’ve ever tasted! My husband always gets the big Dixie Breakfast and it comes with eggs how you want them, bacon, sausage, and a huge pancake. He says it is a delicious breakfast. I usually get either the Dixie burger or their Dixie Chili. On my last visit, I had their burger and it was quite tasty and the fries are also delicious! I had the chance to also interview the owner here and it went well; you can read their response below.

My interview with the owner went quite well and I asked similar questions. I started with, “How long has this business been going on for?” They responded, “The Dixie Café opened March 22, 2010, so we are coming up on our 11th anniversary!” (this interview was done March 7th I believe) I then asked, what inspired the owner to start this business?” They responded, “In the early 1950s, Dixie Alexander opened the original “Dixie Café” in Borger, Texas. She and her husband Edward lived nearby in a small Phillips Petroleum Company oil field camp. The grocery store in Phillips, TX was called the ‘Quick Stop Grocery”. “What are the best selling item(s) on your menu?” They responded, “We serve breakfast all day, from 7 am-2 pm, and our traditional Breakfast Platter is the most popular menu item, followed by Mr. Alexander’s Dixie Burger.” Finally, I asked them what their best-selling desserts were and they replied, “We don’t offer desserts, although Anita’s homemade blueberry muffins are a favorite! Worth mentioning…We were voted in the top 3 “Best in Kentucky” down-home restaurants twice by Kentucky Living Restaurant in the past 3 years, and voted as the best small business in Jessamine County in 2020”. I counted muffins as a dessert (silly me!) Either way, you’re going to have to stop by and see what all they offer!

Dodd’s Corner – Nicholasville

Dodd’s Corner Farmer’s Market will always hold a special place in my heart too… along with their pizza! Which is why they made the list; their pizzeria was too delicious not to mention! They have so many flavors and specialties to choose from! The catch is you can only come in for their pizzas on Fridays & Saturdays after 4 pm. I’ll be going over this amazing place in a blog all about Dodd’s Corner soon!

I had the chance to try their pizza (according to the website they are partnered with Rolling Oven Pizza) and their breadsticks and oh my goodness it was like tasting a piece of Italy. It felt Italian inspired on my tongue and my taste buds went wild. I recommend trying their pizza which is cooked in a fire-burning oven!

The Home Stretch Bar & Grill – Nicholasville

My husband and I went about 6 months ago and enjoyed a very fine meal here for dinner. I remember tasting their delicious hot wings and their hamburgers are almost to die for! My husband ordered their chicken strips and he said that they didn’t disappoint either! I unfortunately never received a response but Everyone loves this place so much so I am still featuring it! Below, we will go over their menu together and I will talk more about our dining experience here.

When viewing their menu they have quite a few categories to look at and choose from! From starters to pizza! Their top-selling items (if I had to guess): chicken tender basket, fish & chips, their pizza, the Home Stretch burger (which I had and it was so delicious), and more of their sandwiches and wings! You can view their menu by clicking here! The atmosphere when we dined in (during the pan-eramic) was a very nice experience. It is a bar and grill, so the atmosphere did consist of that bar and grill vibe. The food smelled so tasty and it has me wanting to go back for more!

Top Daycares in Jessamine County, Kentucky

Me working as a camp counselor at Rockfish Camp in North Carolina – Summer 2017

Every mother/father/caregiver only wants the best for their children. I, myself, even though I have no kids also want the best for theirs and your children. I have compiled a list below of the top FIVE daycares that are located in Jessamine Co. Ky that real people have nominated! Those who nominated these businesses/daycares weren’t allowed to nominate their own or nominate any if it was owned by their family or friend. I can assure you this list is genuine and I was not paid to promote. I simply just want to share the best!

A lot of you may or may not already know but I, myself have been in childcare for 7+ years. I have worked as a babysitter for more than 5 people overnight and during the day. I worked at a summer camp in North Carolina during the summer of 2017; and I have worked at two different daycare facilities. None of the daycares I mention are any that I have worked for as again, I want this to be genuine. I have also been a part of the Lunch Buddy Program at Wilmore Elementary which is where they assigned college students who attended Asbury University a child who really needed a mentor or someone to keep them company. As you can tell after all that being said I really enjoy being around children and just having a positive impact on their lives is just amazing and it really gives you a different outlook on life. This is why I wanted to do this, so I hope my list helps you all! DISCLAIMER: there is no particular order however I went by how many nominations they had from top to bottom. I was able to ask those who nominated these daycares their opinions and input. I was not able to go in any in person due to COVID as I didn’t want to potentially harm anyone. All interviews were done via email and if you would like to add information then please email me at or comment below with your opinions! Thank you.

Children’s Choice Learning Center

Over 10 people total nominated this daycare making it #2 on the list! I asked what the same questions and their response:

Our main goal when starting our facility was to provide the children of Jessamine County the opportunity to build a relationship with God. We’re also proud of the educational and emotional support we are able to provide them. Our philosophy is to help each child grow and learn to their fullest ability. We pride ourselves on treating each child as if they were our own. We begin caring for children as young as six weeks, up to children twelve years of age. We have a lot of children who begin their daycare career with us as infants and later age out, we love seeing past children out in the community. Our center prides itself in showering kids with love, redirection and other age/daycare appropriate tactics for behavior issues. Our teachers educations vary from CDA, college, state and federal mandated certifications, plus more. Children’s Choice Learning Center prides itself in providing quality childcare and we would love the opportunity to serve more children in our community. – Daycare Director, Barbara Miller.

Children’s Choice Learning Center has been in business for over 5 years. Below is a recent photo of their staff.

ABC Learning Academy

Over 10 people also have nominated this daycare.

ABC Learning Academy is located off on North Main St. in Nicholasville. They have been in business for quite a while and from what some of the parents have said is that and I quote, “the best daycare I have ever enrolled my children in. They really care for the kids and they are definitely good people. I trust them wholeheartedly with my babies”. They take in between infancy and school age kids. This is a licensed daycare! They responded to my questions and here are their answers:

My Mom (Debbie Edwards) and I both have a degree in Elementary Education and a true passion for children which led us to the decision of opening a daycare. I have been in the daycare field since 2007 and my mom was a teacher. You hear so many heartbreaking stories about daycares, it was important for us to provide  a safe and loving environment for the children off Jessamine Co. We are a family owned and operated business! My Mom and I both serve as the owners and directors and are constantly involved in the daily operation of the daycare. We believe all children are unique and every child deserves to be loved unconditionally. Each of our rooms are designed to meet the different needs of each child therefore, providing a safe and equal opportunity of learning. [They have 6 weeks to 12 yrs] [I asked about how they go about behavioral issues] Positive reinforcement and redirection! We focus on rewarding and praising positive behaviors instead of disciplining negative actions. The owners both have a degree in Elementary Education. Several of our staff have either obtained or working to obtain their directors credentials.

Here is their Facebook Page for more information:

ABC Learning Academy has been in business for over 10 years.

Bellaire Creative Christian Academy

9 People nominated this daycare and again no response but that is totally okay! I still managed to get some info from parents whose children are enrolled here so I hope their words can help you further contact this amazing business!

Bellaire Creative Christian Academy actually has two locations! One is in Nicholasville off 27, while the other is in Lexington! I talked to a couple parents and they all dais they love having their children are cared for by this facility. One mother said that her children bring art home all the time and it just brings a smile to her face because she was with another daycare that didn’t even bother with working with children in such creative ways. So if you’re looking for a very creative daycare that is Christian-based then this may be a fit for you! They take in children from ages 6 weeks to 12 years old. You can find out more by clicking this link that will take you to their “about us” page on their website: !

Bellaire Christian Academy has been in business for over 10 years.

Academy of Little Learners

7 people nominated this one and I had to share it! I talked with one mother who loves having their child here and I hope her words encourage you to look into this daycare facility! Again I had no response but that is perfectly fine! I found some helpful information that I will list in the next paragraph!

Academy of Little Learners is a daycare located in Nicholasville Ky off of Wilmore rd. They take ages from infancy to 12 as well as most daycares do in this list. I talked to one father and he says this is an outstanding daycare and his child is not at all afraid to go in the mornings (there is a good sign!!!). or years his child has been terrified of daycares due to separation anxiety but he says it looked like they really helped with that issue. He recommends everyone with an ‘anxious’ child to give this daycare a shot! You can also find out more by clicking this link tot heir website:

Academy of Little Learners has been in business for over 10 years.

Wedding Blog 7.13.19

Robert Jacob Lee Lamb proposed to me September of 2018 right before he got admitted into the hospital due to his BP shunt malfunctioning. Seeing him in the hospital was devastating, it was too much, there were so many problems that occurred personally as well. But we made it. Our love grew stronger. I knew we could do anything and overcome anything after experiencing that… and well, then the wedding came creeping up on us and we were already behind on that so scratch out the part where we could get through anything (JUST KIDDING – LOL). We thought going through each other’s illnesses were tough, wedding planning was way tougher! My expectations of the wedding were set too high considering the money state we were in, however, I still dreamed our wedding was that of perfection, and just all-around that beautiful fairy tale wedding that I had envisioned.

My vision looked something like this…

When I started planning my wedding in a notebook, on paper, I had a list of vendors, a list of colours, places scribbled out, and circled. Types of flowers, types of runners, and different ways for unity such as a candle. In my head there were thousands of people seated outside under a beautiful sky, in cute well-done chairs. Flowers of all kinds that matched the themes, and everything! In my head the wedding I had in mind was what I believed as, “perfect”. I already knew how I wanted everything to be, and I assumed that is how it was going to be. It was anything but perfect however, it was magical and I felt like a princess.

Photo captured at my wedding by photographer, Stephen Madden.

Let’s get into the details and view pics from my wedding, shall we?

We got ready at my uncle’s shop. My sister, Elizabeth did my hair while I did my own makeup. And I looked beautiful, and didn’t have to pay someone else to do it which was pretty awesome!

We had the wedding at High Bridge Pavilion located in Wilmore, Kentucky. It is a beautiful place. Very affordable as well though, you must be a citizen of Jessamine County, Kentucky to reserve it. They may have deals for others not living there, but you’d have to call the county clerk and see. They provided 100 chairs, and 25 tables that were perfect for our wedding!

The colours I wanted were:

And I got:

The wedding dress was perfect. Short so it emphasized my bare feet which was the look I was going for. I got the dress from David’s Bridal in Lexington, Ky off of Nicholasville Rd. I was in love – still in love with that veil too!

The cake I wanted:

The cake I got:

It was more than perfect! I also had the cake made with buttercream! The flowers were edible, and the dessert had three flavors in each tier: strawberry, chocolate, vanilla! It was the perfect cake for guests that may be picky! Jessica Dawn White was the amazing baker of this cake. I asked, she delivered! She is @beachbumjessica on Instagram! She does an amazing job on any cake you need! Birthday cakes are her specialty!

Let’s talk about the ceremony!

I’m a deist, but Jake is a full-on Christian! That is why we compromised and went with a preacher. I’m not going to go into too much details on the beliefs part, however, many couples struggle to agree on a preacher or prime minister or whatnot when it comes to the ceremony. I grew up in a church and Pastor John Ritchie, and he has been there for a while, he even visited Jake while he was in the hospital. He is a dedicated man, that is for sure, and that is why I agreed upon a pastor! I feel it is very important to agree about this part of the ceremony because everyone’s religion is important to them and finding that happy medium is what is best for the couple! Just my opinion though, I am sure others can agree! Oh, and instead of doing the unity candle or whatever, we chose to do the sand! So, it was a great compromise, cause now i have a cute vase I can put fake flowers in!

How did we choose the bridal party? It is a long-complicated story, so I won’t go into much detail on that – LOL!

I chose my bridesmaids carefully, also tip: do not choose people as your bridesmaids just because someone else wants you to choose them, for example, your husband or mom. This day is yours, you deserve those you truly love and are always there for you, by your side!

My Bridesmaids:

  • Mary Varie Adams – She has been one of my top best friends since 2018. We knew each other in elementary school, but lately we’ve just become best friends! We eat together all the time, so food is a basis of this awesome friendship honestly!
  • Anna (Annie) Maria Dailey – I met her at Asbury University and has been one of my besties since 2016. We even worked at a summer camp together! I love her just as much as Mary and I just had to have her by my side too!

My Maid of Honor:

  • Elizabeth Ashton Perry – My sister, and my number one best friend! Obviously she was bound to be my maid of honor!

Our Flower Girl:

  • Mylee Lamb – Jake’s younger cousin! Isn’t she so cute?
(left) Elizabeth, Me, Annie, Mary, Mylee Lamb (Right)

Jake didn’t have an issue picking groomsmen one bit, and I applaud him for that!

His Groomsmen:

  • Dallas Michael Murphy – He is my cousin, but he’s also basically, my brother (from another mother, haha LOL, anyways…) and Jake wanted to honor me by having his as a groomsmen.
  • Josh Lee Young – My step father, Jake has gotten very close to him the last few years, and chose him not because of me at all, but rather because it is someone he cares about as much as I do!

His Best man:

  • Donivan Ray Headrick – Someone he has known for a long while, works with, and loves as his brother. They are super close, so I knew he’d be his best man!

Our Ring Bearer:

  • Charles M. Cheek – My younger cousin! Isn’t he adorable as well?
(Left) Dallas Murphy, Josh Young, Jake Lamb, Donivan Headrick, and Charles Cheek (Right)

I wanted all the bridesmaids/and maid of honor to walk in and out with all the groomsmen/and best man. That is what I always wanted, and I got it! Despite what others thought.

The Ceremony was one for the books though, I have to admit, I was so nervous! I was very anxious. Which explains this next picture of me. Warning, I look scared, but don’t worry because I was just anxious something would go wrong, plus this was a huge commitment.

“See what I mean?”

Here comes the Bride…

I had my grandfather walk me down the aisle. He raised me alongside my mother, his daughter, Mary Ann. It was such a magical moment! Not only magical, but emotional. My grandfather just turned 69, prior to my wedding I was so afraid he wouldn’t be able to walk me and “give me away”. I was blessed to have him by my side. I love you papaw, Eldon Cheek Sr.!

“I DO”

The Reception

We had Canes’ catered which costed us $200.

Since I let my papaw walk me down the aisle, I had the father-daughter dance with my stepfather, Josh! It was another emotional moment of the evening! I think the dances were honestly my favourite part! The bridal party dances, the father-daughter dance, and the first dance for bride and groom were so fun and meant so much!

I change my mind, the best part was having those that love us, come and celebrate two lives becoming one!

Thank you to the bridal party, my mother, Josh, Jake’s grandparents, my grandparents, Pastor Ritchie, and Candice Cheek for helping to make this amazing day happen! We appreciate you all.

P.s. Thanks everyone for the presents!
